One of the most decorated figures in the history of MMA, Henderson, who left the UFC to sign a multi-year agreement with STRIKEFORCE in December 2009, is the only fighter in the sport’s history to simultaneously hold two different titles in two different weight classes (welterweight and heavyweight) for a major fight promotion (PRIDE Fighting Championships).

The 31-year old-Shields, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and resident of San Francisco, captured the vacant STRIKEFORCE middleweight crown with a unanimous five-round decision over fellow superstar Jason “Mayhem” Miller in a live CBS primetime televised matchup at Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill., on Nov. 7, 2009. Shields, who has not suffered a defeat since December 14, 2004, will put a 13-fight win streak on the line when he faces Henderson.

Since 2006, the 24-year-old Mousasi has reeled off 15 consecutive victories to become the top 205-pound fighter in the world. An aggressive, Dutch-Armenian fighter, who relocated with his family from Iran to The Netherlands when he was four-years-old, captured the STRIKEFORCE light heavyweight title by impressively stopping Renato “Babalu” Sobral one minute into the first round of their meeting at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. on Aug. 15, 2009.

Unbeaten since he made his MMA debut in Japan with a first round (2:11) TKO over Travis Wiuff on Sept. 28, 2008, the 28-year-old King Mo is a former NCAA Division I All-American and Big 12 wrestling champion for Oklahoma State University. With a mere 11 months of MMA experience under his belt, the Murfreesboro, Tenn.-born fighter decimated two-time UFC tournament champion and MMA legend Mark “The Smashing Machine” Kerr just 25 seconds into their meeting with a barrage of punches on Aug. 28, 2009.
Melendez, a 27-year-old Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu stylist, reclaimed the STRIKEFORCE lightweight belt from the man who took it from him – Josh “The Punk” Thomson – with a five-round unanimous decision in one of the most ferocious battles of all time in the cage at HP Pavilion on Dec. 19, 2009. The stunning victory came just four months after the San Francisco native avenged the only other defeat of his career by stopping Japanese wrestling ace Mitsuhiro “The Endless Fighter” Ishida with an onslaught of punches in the third round (3:56) of a rematch on Aug. 15, 2009.

The 26-year-old Aoki, a dangerous submission expert who holds a black belt in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as well as judo, is recognized as one of the sport’s premiere 155-pound fighters. His tremendous flexibility has allowed him to surprise many opponents, thus earning him the nickname “Tobikan Judan,” which is Japanese for “master of flying submissions.”

On Oct. 6, 2009, Aoki seized the DREAM lightweight title by submitting superstar Joachim Hansen with an armbar in the second round (4:56) of a championship bout in Yokohama, Japan.
The event will air live on the CBS Television Network on April 17.

STRIKEFORCE in March 2009 signed a multi-year agreement to stage live MMA events on premium cable television network SHOWTIME. The promotion made its live, primetime debut on CBS with the “Fedor vs. Rogers” mega-fight that it co-promoted with M-1 Global on Saturday, November 7 and generated 5.46 million viewers for the main event between the world’s number one heavyweight, Fedor Emelianenko, and superstar Brett “The Grim” Rogers.

About STRIKEFORCE
STRIKEFORCE (www.strikeforce.com) is a world-class mixed martial arts cage fight promotion which, on Friday, March 10, 2006, made history with its "Shamrock vs. Gracie" event, the first sanctioned mixed martial arts fight card in California state history. The star-studded extravaganza, which pitted legendary champion Frank Shamrock against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Cesar Gracie at San Jose's HP Pavilion, played host to a sold-out, record crowd of 18,265. Since 1995, STRIKEFORCE, sanctioned by ISKA, has been the exclusive provider of martial arts programming for ESPN and, after 12 years of success as a leading, world championship kickboxing promotion, the company unveiled its mixed martial arts (MMA) series with "Shamrock vs. Gracie." In May 2008, West Coast Productions, the parent company of STRIKEFORCE, partnered with Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment (SVS&E), an entity created in 2000 to oversee all business operation aspects of the San Jose Sharks and HP Pavilion at San Jose.

ACF - X, KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE

March 1, 2010

Saturday night, February 27th, Absolute Cage Fights, a MMA promotion company, thrilled the local crowd with ACF-X” an event that definitely to live up to its name.

At their usual venue, the Knoxville Expo Center, ACF-X was a Pro-Am event that featured many of the local fighters you’ve come to know and appreciate, showcasing 3 pro fights and 10 amateur fights.
The fans were not disappointed!

For a blow-by-blow of the Undercard, keep reading. If you’re just interested in your favorite pro-fighter's results, go here.
Also - check back later in the week to view some pictures of the event; I'll post them as soon as they're available!

Tim Boyle vs. Chris Wolfe 155lb'ers
Round 1 and the fight begins. Chris almost immediately gets Boyle in an RNC…and the fight’s over. Chris Wolfe wins by RNC - fast work!
John Harrigan vs. Chris Lussenden (Heavyweight. bout)
Round 1: The fight starts out with Harrigan rushing Lussenden up against the cage; after some dirty boxing, it’s obvious they're not going anywhere. Time to move 'em!

Harrigan takes Lussenden to the ground and rains some power shots to Lussenden’s head. Unfortunately it’s too close to the 10 sec. clapper, so not enough to win the fight before time runs out. End of Round 1.
Round 2: Harrigan takes Lussenden to the ground and immediately he gets him in a rear naked choke, using his arms only…no hooks! Lussenden has heart, but he taps out within seconds.

Shane Hill vs. Scott McDermitt 183 lb. bout
Round 1: The fight starts out pretty exciting with a high kick from McDermitt and then an immediate taken down. Shane's on top, but McDermitt's got him in a good choke and a solid figure 4 leg hold.
Shane breaks free, but McDermitt's got full guard. The ref prompts them to keep fighting, even though they’re going at it already. Shane almost has an RNC on McDermitt.

Lots of reversals in this fight – one minute Shane's on the bottom and almost has a guillotine, but McDermitt gets out quickly; and then Shane traped his arms...

McDermitt manages to break free and starts to light it up with some heavy ground and pound. For some reason, we don't know why, the fighters stand up and motion to the ref...and then the bell goes off. Never did find out what happened!

Round 2: Shane takes McDermitt to the ground immediately after the bell and the crowd cheers for their local fighter. I don’t think McDermitt expected Shane’s rush in and take control strategy.

There's no question Round 2 totally belongs to Shane – he owned McDermitt. At one point he almost got an RNC on McDermitt: the hooks were in and was pounding him, trying to get McD to put his arms up so he could sink in that RNC all the way. Unfortunately – McDermitt held on and lasted 'til the bell.

Round 3: The round starts with both fighters rushing at each other. McDermitt gets Shane up against the cage. Shane gets him in what looks like a standing guillotine and takes McD down to the mat.
McDermitt gets out of Shane's hold and starts to get up, when all of a sudden WOW!!! Shane pulls a reversal, switches to what looks like an arm bar (ref’s in the way) and McDermitt taps out after one second. GREAT FIGHT!

Cody Wilson vs. Rhett Warner 195 lb. bout
First, and I should have said this sooner, whoever picked out the music for this show ROCKS. Good job, guys.
Round 1: This fight's start off by moving FAST! Cody tries to take down Rhett, but he's defending pretty well so far. Then WHAM – Cody gets the take down, and da-ang did that mat shake! Both fighters bounce off the mat - it was that hard, and it woes the crowd.
Cody is on top after taking Rhett down; then Cody gives Rhett his arm and he goes for a kimura. Cody manages to pull out and it's end of Round 1!

Round 2: Nice leg kick by Cody and sweet spinning hook kick. Doesn't connect, but it was nice. Rhett takes Cody down to a guillotine...but Cody quickly escapes. Rhett has Cody against the cage and is trying to pass his guard; OH sweet upkick by Cody, right to Rhett's face. That had to hurt.

Cody next gets Rhett down on the mat and is trying to pass his guard! 10 seconds are left, and he begins a flurry of hammer fists - and Round 2 ends.

Round 3: It's a slugfest...and Cody's got some mean kicks. Kicks definitely count, and there’s no doubt these hurt!
Rhett looks tanked and Cody's not stopping. Another round kick to Rhett's face; now Cody's not even hitting him at this point – he’s pushing him around the ring and up against the cage.

After a short rest against the cage, Cody hammers Rhett with some knees. They head on back to the cage and now Cody is doing a bit of ground and pound of his own.

And it ends in a ground shaking TKO: Cody knocks out Rhett for the win with only 2 seconds left in Round 3. What a great fight by two incredible warriors!

After a short break while the announcer and ring girl pass out some door prizes, the fights begin again.

Jason Kilgore vs. Eric Armstrong 135 lb. bout (TITLE Belt)
Round 1: This fights starts out fast immediately with a slugfest and both fighters trying to get a quick ending. With seconds, Kilgore takes Armstrong to the mat and rains a heavy onslaught of fists down on his face. The punches are too much for Armstrong and he taps out to end the fight. Kilgore wins the Championship Belt.

Marlone Smith vs. Jeremy Holm (Heavyweight for TITLE & ISKA Belt)
Round 1: As the fighters enter the ring, can I just say again the music choices at this event are awesome?!

The fighters rush in at each other. Smith tries to take down Holm, but Holm seems to lose his balance and falls instead. Smith goes for him on the ground, but then HE falls over Holm.

Now they're 'rastling and Smith gets Holm in a rear naked choke. After a quick reversal, Holm's on top. He passes Smith's guard and is punching him nonstop.

Smith tries shrimping out, but Holm's got him tight on the ground. Can't see from here but it really doesn't like Smith's defending himself. The bell rings.

Round 2: These fighters look awkward. They've both got underhooks, and start swinging each other back and forth in the middle of the ring.
WOW - Smith gets a takedown and now has a pretty good RNC. Holm gets out of it thought – good defense. After another reversal it looks like Holm almost had an armbar…and the bell rings!

Round 3: Holm looks tanked. They're coming out a lot slower this round. Smith delivers a really nice knee to Holm’s middle – that one had to hurt.

Exhausted at this point, they're hanging on to each other. Smith uses the cage to slowly sink down and attempts a standing to seated guillotine. It doesn’t work, and now Holm's on top. He’s got full mount and is starting his own version of ground and pound – and there goes the bell. This was a close fight; let's see if the “he who's on the bottom at the end loses” curse is real.

Unanimous decision - and yes, the “he who's on the bottom at the end of the fight” curse exists. Jeremy Holm takes the win!

Kyle Kohler vs. Drew Kennedy 170 lb. bout (TITLE & ISKA Belt) next!
Round 1: This fight starts out fast, with Kohler getting an immediate takedown. We’re then treated to something not seen enough – Kyle defends well from the ground. He works hard at getting up by delivering his own form of defense with some really nice heel kicks to the back of his grounded opponent, and then gets a quick reversal.

Kyle manages to get to his feet and Kennedy follows – and they start going back and forth, going toe to toe with their punches.
In the clinch now and fighting for position, Kennedy takes Kyle to the ground. He passes his guard easily, but gives Kyle his arm – he almost gets an arm bar.

Still on the ground, Kennedy starts pummeling Kyle. Kyle tries to get out…and gives his back to Kennedy. Twice.
Kennedy tries to sink in his grip for an RNC, but Kyle does a good job of defending. Unbelievable the punishment he’s taking. That’s the end of a very crazy Round 1!

Round 2: fast fight...Kyle takes down Kennedy; Kennedy's on top, but Kyle almost gets a Kimura.

Once again, Kyle gives Kennedy his back. He tries using the cage to escape Kennedy's brutal punches, but the ref finally stops the fight.
Kyle's face is red like raw meat, but he never stopped. Drew Kennedy wins the 170lb Title Championship belt by ref stoppage. Fast, exciting, nonstop fight!

Marshall Manning vs. Adam Dehart 185 lb. bout (TITLE & ISKA Belt)
Round 1: The two fighters come out ready to fight. Manning gets Dehart against the cage and starts driving in some good knees...too good. Looks like Dehart’s going to need a 5 min break while he recoups.
After a short break, the fight starts again, and Manning immediately pins Dehart against the cage again. The two fighters jockey for position and now Dehart has Manning up against the cage and begins some dirty boxing of his own. This fight’s going fast – as now Manning's in control and almost has a guillotine sunk in; Dehart's counters by throwing some knees.

As painful as the knees must have been, Manning takes Dehart from a standing guillotine down – and it’s too much for Dehart. He taps and Manning gets the win!

Undercard (Amateur) Card Results

SARAH KAUFMAN DEFEATS TAKAYO HASHI TO BECOME FIRST STRIKEFORCE WOMEN’S WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION IN HISTORY AT STRIKEFORCE CHALLENGERS

February 28, 2010

February 27, 2010 by strikeforce

Rockhold Crushes Bradley, Saffiedine and Medeiros Victorious On SHOWTIME® At STRIKEFORCE’s birthplace in San Jose

SAN JOSE, CA (February 27, 2009) –Before a sold out crowd of 2,322, former ballet dancer turned undefeated professional mixed martial arts (MMA) star Sarah Kaufman (11-0) became the first STRIKEFORCE Women’s Welterweight (135 pounds) Champion in history by powering her way to a five round unanimous decision over Japan’s Takayo Hashi (12-2) in the STRIKEFORCE Challengers main event at San Jose’s Civic Auditorium on Friday, February 26.

Luke Rockhold (7-1) continued his climb up the middleweight (185 pounds) ladder with a stunning first round (2:24) TKO of Paul Bradley (12-2). A middleweight contest between former South African national wrestling champion Trevor Prangley (22-5-1) and France’s Karl Amoussou (11-2-2) ended prematurely after Prangley accidentally poked Amoussou in the eye, leading to a doctor stoppage and technical draw being declared.

From the outset, Kaufman pressed the action with a stiff jab and one-two punch combinations, but was unable to finish Hashi who repeatedly backpedaled her way out of trouble. Kaufman landed her best shots in the first round, dropping Hashi with a straight right hand.

In the third stanza, Kaufman sent Hashi reeling back and nearly put the Japanese fighter down for the second time in the bout with a straight right hand. After a Kaufman jab snapped Hashi’s head back, Hashi responded by shooting for a takedown that Kaufman stuffed.

A chess match ensued for the remainder of the bout. Kaufman continued to score with her hands and right leg kick while Hashi retreated to avoid imminent danger. All three judges scored every round in favor of Kaufman after the fifth round concluded.

In the first round of their much anticipated matchup, Rockhold dropped Bradley with a right hand to the side of the head. Bradley fought his way back to his feet, but Rockhold quickly went on the attack, scoring a head kick and following up with three straight knee strikes to the body.
Badly battered from the series of blows, Bradley turned his back, prompting the referee to immediately stop the action.

As expected, Amoussou came out of the gates firing punches at Prangley, who covered up and countered the Frenchman’s assault with his own hands. Prangley scored a takedown, but was unable to advance his position from half guard

After the referee stood up the fighters, Prangley, with an open left hand, accidentally poked Amoussou in the right eye. The ringside physician immediately entered the cage and examined Amoussou, who was unable to open his eye, and declared the fighter unable to continue at the 4:14 mark of the first round (According to MMA rules in the state of California, the ringside physician has the discretion to stop a bout in the event that an accidental foul causes an injury).

In other action Yancy Medeiros (5-0) of Waianae, Hawaii dominated Raul Castillo (6-1) at middleweight with continuous flurries throughout the matchup between the pair of unbeaten fighters.

Medeiros stuffed Castillo’s repeated takedown attempts and continued to pour on the punishment with both hands, putting Castillo on the canvas with a right hand in the third round. After an exchange of shots brought the bout to a close, all three judges awarded the fight to Medeiros.

Like Medeiros, Tarec Saffiedine (8-2) maintained an all out stand up offensive in a welterweight (170 pounds) fight with James Terry (7-2) for three straight rounds, opening a cut on Terry’s lower lip and bringing about a welt under Terry’s left eye.

Terry repeatedly attempted to bring the fight to the mat, but Saffiedine defended the takedowns well and responded with more strikes. After three rounds, Saffiedine was declared the winner by all three judges scoring the bout.

Amongst those in attendance at Civic Auditorium, was MMA’s newest star, football legend Herschel Walker, as well as STRIKEFORCE World Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz, and STRIKEFORCE World Lightweight Champion Gilbert “El Nino” Melendez.

During an interview with STRIKEFORCE Challengers host Mauro Ranallo, Walker said, “(MMA) is the toughest sport there is. To step in the cage and go mano-a-mano, there’s nothing like it. It is the toughest training I’ve ever done.”

Regarding his future in the sport, the 47-year-old Walker said, “I will leave that up to my team at AKA (American Kickboxing Academy, San Jose) when I get back in the gym, we’ll see if they say I am capable of going again, we’ll do it again.”

The folks in Greenville, South Carolina were treated to a night of explosive MMA action with 8 professional and 4 amateur bouts at the beautiful BI LO Center. More than 4,000 people witnessed the excitement as local legend Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson of Upstate Karate / Pitch Black MMA lived up to his reputation as a consumate knockout artist. His opponent, Jeremy Joles fored a contest, taking Stephen to the ground in rounds #1. Stephen worked effectively from the guard position and eventually regained his feet, where Joles was no match for Thompson's accurate and athletic striking skills. The end came at 3;40 of the second round with a blistering head kick followed up by a punching combination. All in all, a great launch to a promising MMA career.

STRIKEFORCE MIAMI RESULTS

January 31, 2010

Saturday, Jan. 30, Live on SHOWTIME From BankAtlantic Center, Miami, Florida
SUNRISE, Fla. (Jan. 31, 2010) – Nick Diaz (21-7) of Stockton, Calif., won his sixth straight and the first-ever STRIKEFORCE welterweight championship with a 4:38, first-round TKO over Marius Zaromskis (13-4) of London, England, and the first and only STRIKEFORCE Female lightweight champion, Cris Cyborg (9-1) of Curitiba, Brazil, successfully defended her 145-title for the initial time with a third-round TKO over Marloes Coenen (17-4) of Deventer, Holland, in the co-featured matches of an action-packed mixed martial arts card before 8,156 at BankAtlantic Center Saturday on SHOWTIME®.

In other results on the main portion of Strikeforce’s first event in 2010, former pro and college football superstar Herschel Walker of San Jose, Calif., made his pro MMA debut at age 47 a winning one, registering a third-round TKO (2:17) over Hungarian-born Greg Nagy (1-2) of Phoenix, Ariz., former two-time world champion “Ruthless’’ Robbie Lawler (17-5, 1 NC) of Granite City, Ill., rallied from the brink of defeat to score a spectacular 3:33, first-round knockout (punches) over Melvin Manhoef (24-7-1) of Amsterdam and unbeaten Bobby Lashley of Coconut Creek, Fla., won his Strikeforce debut and improved to 5-0 with a 2:06, first-round TKO over Wes Sims (22-13-1, 2 NC) of Lancaster, Ohio.

The event, presented by SHOWTIME and STRIKEFORCE, aired live simultaneously on SHOWTIME® and on the Web (Strikeforce: All Access) at http://strikeforce.sho.com. The SHOWTIME telecast began at 10 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast); the Strikeforce: All Access webcast went at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
In a fight streamed live on EA SPORTS™ MMA website (www.easportsmma.com), Jay Heiron (19-4) of Las Vegas took a unanimous three-round decision over Joe Riggs (32-11) of Phoenix to put him in position to possibly fight for the Strikeforce welterweight title.

Southpaw Diaz, a talented, Cesar Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, mostly outclassed Zaromskis in the match for the vacant world title. Diaz decisively defeated the Dutchman at his own game: striking.

“I’ll fight anybody,’’ said Diaz, who has been victorious in seven of his last eight and hasn’t lost in more than two years. I felt real good fighting again at 170. But the guy I really want is Gegard Mousasi.’’

Cyborg had to work hard to defeat the courageous Coenen, who at no point seemed intimidated by the powerful Brazilian bomber and fought like it. She certainly wasn’t totally overwhelmed and presented Cyborg with more problems than the vast majority of Cyborg’s opponents.
In the end, Cyborg was too tough and rough. “I’m very happy to win this fight,’’ said Cyborg shortly the heated scrap was stopped at 3:40 of the third. “It was a good fight. I think I could have done more but she was the toughest fighter I’ve faced and has a great heart. I admire her a lot.’’
Coenen, a strikingly attractive submission whiz who couldn’t take down Cyborg, wanted the fight to continue. “This is extremely disappointing to say the least,’’ she said. “This was for a world title. It should have been allowed to go a little longer. I wanted to fight.’’

A native of Wrightsville, Ga., Walker was satisfied with his performance in his highly-anticipated, much-publicized debut. Endurance-wise, he didn’t fight like a man his age. He was still breathing easily during the post-fight interview.

“I feel good but I didn’t do many things right and I still have a lot to learn,’’ said Walker, the 1982 Heisman Trophy winner and a two-time Pro Bowl competitor. “The experience itself was exciting and I thank my opponent for fighting me. It’s tough to fight an old man. This is the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
“I thought I’d be more nervous. I’m an MMA fighter now. I earned a little bit of a stripe tonight. This is one of my biggest athletic achievements ever.’’
Nothing was going right for the left-handed Lawler for more than three minutes as the highly regarded Manhoef had his way. But a savage overhand right rocked Manhoef and a left that caught him on the way down ended matters almost immediately.

“I knew this guy was really a killer, but I knew I would catch him,’’ Lawler said. “When he looks to finish, he really loads up. I just lured him in and got him.

“He was chopping and chopping and he was really hurting me with the leg kicks. When I felt the first one land, I knew I could get one more in and finish, and that’s what I did.’’
Lashley, who wants to fight for a world title, said Saturday’s exercise against the 6-foot-10-inch Sims was an excellent learning experience.

“Anytime you win and learn something, it’s a good night,’’ he said. “Sims is a tall guy who came in with nothing to lose, almost like he didn’t care, and those are the guys that are usually the hardest to fight.
“I want to continue to step up.’’

Presents “Fit Factory Fighting Championships II”
Sevierville County High School
Sevierville, TN

ISKA AMATEUR MMA
Results by ISKA Event Representative: Todd Murray

At Gene Click’s, Fit Factory Fighting Championships, Matthew Tran (from Easley, South Carolina fighting for Team Huskey out of Asheville, North Carolina) became the new ISKA 135lb Tennessee State Title Holder. Matt defeated a very game Chad “Lil Evil” Perrine (who holds two other title belts from other local promotions) by submission in 2:28 of the first round. It was a fast paced fight; Matt came out with some quick hand work followed by some high flying kicks reminiscent of Cung Lee who he acutely favors, Chad counter punched and kicked, then immediately shot in for the takedown. Once on the ground it looked like Chad was going to have his way with his normal ground and pound, when Matt transitioned from an attempt at rubber guard to a kimora, Chad attempted to roll out of it, but Matt rolled through with him ending up on top with the arm locked up tight causing him to tapout. Congratulations to Matt Tran.

QUEST FOR THE TITLE V

January 25, 2010

January 23rd, 2010
Victoria, BC, Canada
Promoters: Keith Varga and Lisa Mellett
ISKA Official: Ian Johnston
Judges: Greg Turnbull, Earl Bennett, Mickey Griffith and Brent Shemilt
Score Keeper: Sandy Ibrams
Time Keeper: Donny Dornick

Photos: The Photography Elf, and Arnold Lim @ mmaringreport.com

Steve Drane – Lindsay Ball (Canadian Champ) – Ian Johnston

Quest for the Title 5 was another major success for fighters and fight fans alike. This was another sell-out crowd for The Quest and fight fans were asking for number 6 before the last bell was rung.

Marco Caffiero vs. Rami Ladki 179.1-186
These two men put on a great show and the 1st round was any man’s win. However, Caffiero started consistently throwing Ladki to the canvas throughout the 2nd round and 2 out of 3 judges awarded this win to … Marco Caffiero.

Kieran Mueller vs. Jay Jauncey 124.1-128
Early in Round 1 Mueller took a serious liver shot and you could hear the groan 5 rows back. Mueller fought on courageously, but Jauncey finally brought him down with 2 devastating leg kicks. Jay Jauncey wins, 1:33 in the 1st round.

Chase Ingalls vs Corey Black 159.1-165
This was the shortest fight of the night and a good lesson to come out with your hands up! Chase Ingalls slammed an unbelievably quick back-leg kick into the jaw of Corey Black on the first throw of the night. Black was down for several minutes. KO to Inglass 00:06 in round 1. Eight year old Loukas Papaloukas had the quickest camera and got this one in action.

Lindsay Ball vs. Jessica Gladstone 124.1-128 (Canadian Featherweight Title)
This was a 1 round fight, but not a mismatch at all. Jessica Gladstone and Lindsay Ball were trading place on the judges score cards for almost 90 seconds, but Ball found the target with an overhand right. Following the shouts of her cornerman and Coach, Stan Peterec, she threw it again and again and again, each time connecting solidly on the cheek and jaw of Gladstone and quickly brought the fight to an end. Ball wins the vacant Canadian Featherweight Title at 1:45 of round 1.

Sylvan Herberger vs. Robbie Espenberg 159.1-165
It pays to be a well rounded fighter! This fight was fantastic action and round 1 was toe to toe. But in round 2, Espenberg showed his exceptional boxing proficiency and Herberger just didn’t know how to handle that. The ref stopped the action at 1:30 in the 2nd round. Winner - Robbie Espenberg!

Mike Downey vs. Mike Houle 179.1-186
This was a split decision for good cause. Downey came in looking strong and a good 10 lbs heaver then Houle, but Houle was well trained, strong and had a great chin. Houle was the first to put the pressure on anytime there was a break in the action, which gave him the edge, and the tenacity of these two fighter made for a great fight. Houle got this close decision.

Greg LaMothe vs. Tom Mattu 147.1-153
Undoubtedly the fight of the night! These two fighters were closely matched, highly skilled and they both showed up to win. Even with all the skill in the ring both men had to prove they had strong leg and good chins. Well done Gentlemen. All three judge - 2 rounds to 1, the winner - Tome Mattu.

Brian Chou vs. John Hamm 142.1-147

This was the fight everyone was waiting for and no one could have been disappointed in the action. Both fighters had excellent technique, were very strong and are a credit to the sport. However, Chou was in a class of his own. The leg speed on Chou is second to none, and his punching combinations are complex and blindingly fast. It is credit to John Hamm’s training and skills as a fighter that this went to the score cards at all. A unanimous decision for Chou. It is high time for Chou to start fighting for some ISKA title belts!

January 25, 2010

NIGHT OF THE EIGHT III was way more exiting than was evem expected by the audiences. An outstanding 8 Men Tournament in the weight category of -70 kg under ISKA k-1 Rules.

All of the fighters gave their best & there were Hamid Mohammad Poor a K-1 max Veteran & Saeed Chardoli who made it through the final.

Saeed Chardoli had relatively esier since he finished both his pre finals by KO & he had picked up less injuries, unlikely Hamid Mohammad poor who had to fight his way to the final through 2 pre final fights each with 1 Ex.round.

At the end of the night it was Saeed Chardoli who took the crawn after 3 hard rounds of fighting plus 10,000,000Rls Price Money.

Night of the 8 is a series of VIP galas promoted by ISKA IRAN & ISKA ASIA. According to the Local rules in Iran, Professional fights are not allowed & therefore all the fighters in these events are forced to use head guards, although they follow the professional rules during the fights.

ROBBIE LAWLER VS. MELVIN MANHOEF, JOE RIGGS VS. JAY HIERON SET FOR STRIKEFORCE: MIAMI JAN. 30

January 7, 2010

NEW YORK (January 6, 2009)– Knockout artists “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler (16-5) and Melvin “No Mercy” Manhoef (24-6-1) will square off with each other in a middleweight (185 pounds) contest at the STRIKEFORCE: Miami mixed martial arts (MMA) event at BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida on Saturday, January 30. Wrestling powerhouses Joe “Diesel” Riggs (32-10) and Jay “The Thoroughbred” Hieron (18-4) will face off at welterweight (170 pounds).

The 27-year-old Lawler, one of MMA’s most explosive punchers, will attempt to rebound from the first round (2:02) submission (guillotine choke) he suffered at the hands of Jake Shields in the main event the first-ever STRIKEFORCE fight card in St. Louis, Missouri on Saturday, June 6, 2009.

One fight prior to the meeting with Shields, Lawler, who hails from Granite City, Illinois, thrilled millions of fans when he unleashed his wrath on Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith in the main event of the live, CBS primetime televised event held in Stockton, California on July 26, 2008.

Born in San Diego, California, Lawler relocated with his family to Bettendorf, Iowa where, at the age of 16, he became a protégé of MMA legend Pat Miletich. Just three years later, Lawler exploded onto the MMA scene, emerging victorious in his first seven starts.

Lawler’s second round KO of Steve Berger at UFC 37.5 on June 22, 2002 made history when it became the first MMA fight ever to air on cable television during an episode of Fox Sports Net’s The Best Damn Sports Show, Period.

A seven time veteran of UFC action, Lawler also made a splash in the now-defunct PRIDE Fighting Championships when he scored a crushing knockout on Joey Villasenor with a flying knee a mere 22 seconds into their matchup at Las Vegas, Nevada’s Thomas and Mack Center on October 21, 2006.

Manhoef, one of STRIKEFORCE’s newest signees who hails from Amsterdam,
Netherlands, notched his latest conquest just days ago at the annual New Year’s Eve K-1 “Dynamite!” event in Japan when he scored a first round (1:49) TKO on former top 10 ranked Kazuo Misaki with a barrage of punches.

His arrival in STRIKEFORCE comes after Manhoef reached the semifinal round of the 2008 DREAM Middleweight Grand Prix tournament by scoring first round TKOs on Dae Won Kim and legendary champion Kazushi Sakuraba on May 11, 2008 and June 15,2008 respectfully.

His well-known battle cry “When I fight, I am willing to die” has translated into Manhoef’s explosive style of fighting, one that has helped him earn 22 of his 30 career MMA wins and 27 of his 45 career kickboxing victories by way of knockout.

Manhoef’s tenure in K-1, the world’s premiere stand-up fighting league, dates back to February 24, 2002. During his tenure with the Japanese promotion, he has triumphed over the likes of former K-1 tournament champions Stefan Leko and Ruslan Karaev, whom Manhoef crushed with a left hook only 31 seconds into their meeting in Amsterdam on June 23, 2007.

Riggs, a 27 year old native of Phoenix, Arizona, will attempt to extend a four fight win streak that began with his second round (2:05) TKO of Luke Stewart in a STRIKEFORCE: Destruction bout at HP Pavilion in San Jose, California on November 21, 2008.

In his last effort under the STRIKEFORCE banner, Riggs dominated hard-hitting “The New York Badass” Phil Baroni for three consecutive rounds of action before walking away with a unanimous judges’ decision victory at St. Louis’ Scottrade Center on June 6, 2009.

Hieron, a former nationally ranked NCAA wrestler for Hofstra University, has been victorious in each of his last six starts. The Long Island, New York native made his STRIKEFORCE debut in his last effort, earning a unanimous decision win over Jesse “J.T. Money” Taylor at HP Pavilion on August 15, 2009.

A former troubled teen, Hieron has since become an inspiration, winning a world title with the now defunct International Fight League (IFL) and relocating to Las Vegas in order to train with the fight squad headed by MMA legend Randy “The Natural” Couture.
